Women in Love by D.H. Lawrence follows the lives of the Brangwen sisters Ursula and Gudrun, who were introduced in Lawrence’s The Rainbow. Both sisters find love, but Gudrun’s relationship with coal mine heir Gerald Crich is complicated and difficult. Like much of Lawrence’s work, Women in Love faced accusations of indecency upon its publication. However, it has since been praised as a complex examination of the changing relationships between men and women in the 20th century and the role of passion and sexuality in the quest for identity and self.
