‘Animal Farm’ and ‘Homage to Catalonia’ are two more works by George Orwell.
‘Animal Farm’ is a satirical allegory that depicts the events of the Russian Revolution and the rise of Stalinism through the lens of a group of farm animals who overthrow their human farmer to establish their own egalitarian society. However, as the pigs, who represent the ruling class, consolidate power, they betray the principles of the revolution, illustrating Orwell’s critique of totalitarianism and the corruption of power.
‘Homage to Catalonia’ is Orwell’s personal account of his experiences during the Spanish Civil War, where he fought on the side of the Republicans against the fascist forces led by General Francisco Franco. The book provides insight into the political complexities and factionalism within the Republican side, as well as Orwell’s disillusionment with the political infighting and betrayal that he witnessed.
