‘Dear Brutus’ is a play written by J.M. Barrie, first performed in 1917. Set in an enchanted forest on Midsummer Eve, the play follows a group of characters who are invited to spend the evening at a mysterious country house by the enigmatic Mr. Lob. As the night progresses, the characters are given the opportunity to revisit pivotal moments from their pasts and explore alternate paths their lives might have taken. The title of the play references Shakespeare’s ‘Julius Caesar, ‘ particularly the line ‘The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings.’
