The story centers around the transport of the daughters of Colonel Munro, Alice, and Cora, to safety at Fort William Henry during the French and Indian War. Guided by Major Duncan Heyward, Natty Bumppo (Hawk-eye), Chingachgook, and Uncas (the novel’s title character), they fend off attacks by the rival Hurons and their leader Maguas, allied with the French. The action, suspense and drama are nonstop in this classic swashbuckling historical adventure novel.
