The protagonist of the book is Fanny Price, a simple, polite girl, endowed with a great morality and common sense, that make her always see things in the right perspective. The arrival of the Crawford brothers, Henry and Mary, two sophisticated Londoners, breaks the monotony of the sleepy life of the Bertram, so that in a few days Edmund falls in love with Mary.
