Birdlife is plentiful and otters, seals, badgers and deer inhabit an area where once beaver, wolves and wild boar roamed. Meanwhile, flint arrowheads, Bronze Age settlements, burial cairns, standing stones, promontory forts, Pictish carvings and Roman coin hoards all leave intriguing hints into Moray’s past. Although two of Moray’s Second World War air bases have thrived, only faint remains are left of the many eighteenth century shipyards and ports, while many of the once-bustling fishing harbours only shelter pleasure craft. The Moray coast, from Cullen to Findhorn and Culbin, has undergone many changes, and this book tries to give a flavour of a region that is full of fascinating stories, constant surprises and glorious scenery.
