Lord Byron, born George Gordon Byron on January 22, 1788, was an English poet and leading figure in the Romantic movement. His genius flourished with an extensive body of work that captured the spirit of an age, characterized by its emphasis on individualism, nature, and emotions. Best known for his lyrical and long-form narrative poetry, Byron”s work includes the powerful “Manfred – A Dramatic Poem” (1817). Exemplary of his dramatic narrative style, “Manfred” expresses themes of existential guilt and the quest for redemption, weaving supernatural elements with profound psychological insights. Byron”s work often reflected his own tumultuous life, including his notorious love affairs, adventures, and political activism. The brilliance and melancholy of his masterpieces, such as “Childe Harold”s Pilgrimage” and “Don Juan, ” influenced a diverse range of writers and remain celebrated for their linguistic sophistication and depth of thematic exploration. He passed away on April 19, 1824, in Missolonghi, Greece, where he had gone to fight for Greek independence, leaving behind a legacy as a poet and a symbol of the Romantic ideal.
