Transcription, also known as "transliteration, " is the work of recording the pronunciation of language B in the script of language A. This book studies the correspondence between Persian and Chinese, divided into two aspects: one is to study how Chinese characters are used to transliterate Persian; the other is to study how Persian or Arabic letters are used to spell Chinese pronunciation. The main language materials relied upon in this book are the Yongle edition of "Huihui Guan Za Zi" and "Huihui Guan Yi Yu", which are first-hand materials for the study of the Chinese-Persian transliteration at the turn of the Yuan and Ming dynasties. They are all produced by people whose mother tongue is Chinese, which is more credible compared to the previous research on the transliteration of the Ming and Qing dynasties, which mainly used the phonetics recorded by Koreans and missionaries in China. Through in-depth analysis of the language materials, this book reveals the correspondence between Chinese character pronunciation and Persian pronunciation, examines the methods of Chinese-Persian transliteration, analyzes and summarizes the characteristics of Chinese pronunciation in the early Ming Dynasty, and describes its phonetic basis.
