Kenneth Bae, geboren 1968 in Seoul, Südkorea, ging mit seiner Familie als Schüler in die USA. Ab 2006 lebte er als Geschäftsmann, Kulturvermittler und Missionar in China. Seit 2010 führte er Touristengruppen von hier nach Nordkorea. Er wollte ihnen das Land und seine Bewohner lieb machen und die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung fördern. Er ist Prediger der Presbyterianischen Kirche in den USA und Pastor der Südlichen Baptisten. Kenneth Bae ist verheiratet und hat drei erwachsene Kinder.
