Dieter Eduard Zimmer, geboren 1934, ist Schriftsteller, Übersetzer und Publizist. Er studierte Literatur- und Sprachwissenschaft in Berlin, Genf und den USA. Ab 1959 lebte er in Hamburg und war dort lange Redakteur der Wochenzeitung “Die Zeit”, von 1973 bis 1977 Feuilletonchef. Seit 2000 ist Zimmer als freier Schriftsteller, Literaturkritiker, Übersetzer und Publizist in Berlin tätig. Der umfassend gebildete Autor veröffentlichte Bücher und Zeitschriftenartikel zu Fragen der Psychologie, Biologie, Anthropologie, Medizin, Linguistik, Kommunikationswissenschaft und des Bibliothekswesens. Seit 1989 ist Zimmer Herausgeber der deutschen Gesamtausgabe von Vladimir Nabokov.
