The Method of Preserving Wealth was written by Nie Yuntai, the grandson of Zeng Guofan. In his lifetime, Nie Yuntai witnessed the rise and fall of many illustrious families. Although these illustrious families were deeply rooted, they gradually declined and their descendants declined. They could not escape the curse of "wealth does not last more than three generations".Nie Yuntai pointed out that people’s attitudes towards wealth and the means of acquiring wealth affect the prosperity of their descendants. If one does good deeds to bless others, not only will one get blessed, but also the descendants will be prosperous. If one accumulates wealth excessively and exploits others, disasters will arise, even harming descendants. There is a principle of natural justice and karmic retribution, which is the crux of "wealth does not last more than three generations".In this book, Nie Yuntai also used Buddhist perspectives to explain how to pass down wealth for a long time. Wealth belongs to society and cannot be monopolized for one’s own enjoyment. If one is wealthy and knows how to give back to society, one’s good fortune will be deeper. Therefore, "maintaining wealth" is actually advising people to understand how to distribute wealth and cultivate virtue and kindness, which is the best way to maintain happiness and wealth.
