Social anxieties cause distress for many children and young adults, both in the setting of social anxiety disorder and as symptoms of accompanying mental disorders. The individuals affected are afraid of behaving embarrassingly or making fools of themselves in front of strangers. Even situations that are meant to bring fun and recognition are avoided. Social anxiety disorder in children and young people often goes undetected, and those affected receive little or no help. This book provides suggestions about the background against which social anxieties arise, with information about how to diagnose them and about the evidence-based treatment modules and programs that exist.
