Twenty-five years ago the Maori Language Act was passed, but research still finds that the Maori language is dying. This collection looks at the state of the language since the Act, how the language is faring in education, media, texts and communities and what the future aspirations for the language are.

Vincent Olsen-Reeder (Nga Potiki a Tamapahore) is a senior researcher for Te Kura Roa, a Nga Pae o te Maramatanga funded Pae Tawhiti initiative that examines the value of the Maori language. This research programme examines both state and community responsiveness to Maori language revitalisation efforts in Aotearoa. Vincent is currently completing his MA thesis at Te Kawa a Maui, School of Maori Studies, Victoria University.
