Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch, born on November 21, 1863, in Bodmin, Cornwall, was a notable figure in English literature, both as a writer and critic. He obtained his education at Clifton College and later at Trinity College, Oxford, where he graduated with first-class honors in classical moderations (1884) and literae humaniores (1886). Quiller-Couch is widely recognized for his influential anthology ‘The Oxford Book of English Verse’ (1900), which displayed his impeccable taste and erudition. He published his novel ‘Fort Amity’ in 1904, demonstrating his literary versatility. An adventure tale of love and war, ‘Fort Amity’ artfully brings together historical background with romantic narrative, echoing Quiller-Couch’s interest in intertwining realism with fantastical elements. Best known by his pseudonym ‘Q, ‘ Quiller-Couch’s literary style is characterized by its lively narrative voice and mastery of the English language, both of which have earned him esteem in the literary canon.
