I think this book will be fun and interesting for you. Portmanteaus like smog and Bennifer are a very current craze. Palindromes are words, phrases, sentences, numbers, and dates that read the same forwards and backwards. One chapter is devoted to how many of our last names came about.

Charlotte Smith is a retired teacher of high school mathematics, English, and library science. She has a BS in math and an MEd. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, she has lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, since 2005. She uses a casual writing style with a sense of humor and an intent to educate whenever possible.
