Originally delivered as part of the 1884 Hibbert lecture series in Oxford and London, Réville’s book probes the origins and growth of religion in pre-Columbian America. Among the topics are “The Deities and Myths of Mexico;” The Sacrifices, Sacerdotal and Monastic Institutions, Eschatology and Cosmogony of Mexico;” “The Fall of the Incas—Peruvian Mythology, Priesthood;” and “Peruvian Cultus and Festivals.”
Über den Autor
Albert Réville (1826-1906) was a French Protestant theologian and historian of comparative religion. Known for his radical liberal ideas, he served as a pastor of the Walloon church, in Rotterdam. He also was professor of the History of Religions at the Collége de France and one of the first to join the Dreyfusard cause, advocating for the innocent man. His writings include “Religions of Non-Civilised Peoples” and “The Chinese Religion.”
