Robert Southey (1774–1843) was a British Romantic poet, member of the “Lake Poets, ” and England’s Poet Laureate from 1813 to his death in 1843. He wrote the first version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears in 1834. Edward Dowden (1843–1913) was an Irish literary critic and poet. His first book, Shakespeare, His Mind and Art, published in 1875, established his reputation as a literary critic. An authority on Shakespeare, he went on to write a number of books about the playwright, as well as numerous other works of criticism and biography.
