Dolly Mae (Coombs) Woodell was born in 1933 in a log cabin with a dirt floor, on the waters of Stony Creek, West Virginia. She was the first daughter and fourth child of Robert and Lula Coombs. Dolly was an avid reader all her life. She married at age seventeen and traveled with her active-duty husband around the states and Japan. She acquired her high school diploma at age forty-five. She then entered Glenville State College and earned her degree in English and art in three and a half years. Dolly is a published author and loves writing books for children.
