This book is the first of a series of children’s books that have been written with the help of my grandchildren, Lucille and Elijah Pierce. All this work has happened around my kitchen table or in the bed, telling stories we have made up in our heads (way past a normal bedtime), or at the lake, sitting on the deck while Lucille demonstrates the language of the fairies of Fa Da Morda (which is coming in the next book), or while listening to Elijah explain that cupcakes really do eat worms (but only if the witch does not eat the cupcake first), which is another story altogether! All the books we hope to share with you have either been written by me or the stories have been told to me by my grandchildren, in whom I hope to give the gift of imagination. All the artwork in this book has been done by my most beautiful niece, Sadie Ringer, who is a wonderful artist and the daughter of my brother, Robbie, for whom this book is dedicated.
A propos de l’auteur
Well, I am being asked what qualifies me to write books, and I must say I do not know the answer to that. I have always wanted to express myself through children’s books because I connect to the thought processes of a three-year-old. They are not too serious. They are not afraid to be silly. They find joy in the act of creating something that is their own. When my sons were young, I wrote some stories for them, but over the years, these stories were lost. When my grandchildren were born, I not only desired to write again but to save the stories. I live in Indiana and work in the nursing field. Many of my patients have trouble with their memory and with finding their words. I have found that just like the three-year-old, these people enjoy a story. One that is not too long, not too complicated. A story that is simple and fun. A story to make them smile. I think that is my qualification to write a book. I am a storyteller. I have come to believe that a lot of good can come from the telling of a story. I hope to tell many stories, but more than that, I hope to encourage other people to tell a story. Tell a story to a young person. Tell a story to an old person. Tell a story to someone, because as my grandchildren would say, ‘You will spread joy and laughter throughout the kingdom!’
