Steven Carter is a retired emeritus professor of English and former Senior Fulbright Fellow at two Polish universities. Author of over 50 books, he is the recipient of the Schachterle Prize; UNESCO’s Nuove Lettere International Poetry and Literature Prize (twice); the Eric Hoffer Foundation’s Montaigne Medal; 1st Prize, 2012 British International Haiku Awards (haibun section); 2nd Prize, 2011 Haiku Presence International Haiku competition; 2nd, 2012 Irish Haiku Society International Haiku competition; 2012 Free XPres Sion Literary Competition: Special Commendation, and the 2012 Janice M. Bostock International Haiku Award: Honorable Mention. Haiku and tanka collection The Distances of Sleep (Alba Publishing, 2013) was shortlisted for The Haiku Foundation Touchstone Distinguished Books Award 2013, haibun collection American Gothic was shortlisted for the Touchstone Award 2015; The Butterfly Dialogues was a finalist in the Eric Hoffer Foundation’s Da Vinci Eye international competition.
