About the author
Charles Grant Blairfindie Allen (1848-1899) was called by his biographer “the busiest man in England.” Born in Ontario, he moved to England in 1876. An ardent champion of Darwin, he wrote several books on evolution, as well as many volumes of biography, history, travel, and fiction—including mystery and science fiction.
