Born on October 14, 1830, Helen Hunt Jackson had a strong, orthodox Calvinist upbringing. Throughout the years, she used various pseudonyms, and published over three hundred poems and prose articles for the Independent, in addition to the travel essays, reviews, and children’s stories she wrote for other publications.
