Whilst the greatest effort has been made to ensure the quality of this text, due to the historical nature of this content, in some rare cases there may be minor issues with legibility. I have arranged in the following pages such ma terials as have been collected during a short period of investigation, and added only a few connecting links. The result in every work of the kind bears little proportion to the labor bestowed upon it and in order to write a complete parish history one should understand all mysteries and all knowledge. Much more remains to be obtained from sources which I have partially, or not at all examined; and the reader will doubtless observe inaccuracies in state ments of fact and modes of expression: but I prefer to issue now what is here collected, however imperfect, to delay with the chance of its being altogether laid aside. Some things will probably be new to most readers, and afi’ord a glimpse of men who lived long ago, and the times that went over them. If space per mitted, I should have extended considerably the par ticulars relating to religious and ecclesiastical matters.
