When Germany invaded the Netherlands, the family hid in the office building’s secret annex. On August 4, 1944, the German police received a tip and stormed the secret annex. They were first taken to the Gestapo headquarters, then to different camps, and finally to the Auschwitz Concentration Camp, where the men and women were separated at the entrance.
