This 1882 volume is both a biography and a deeply personal account of the author’s relationship with Emerson and Emerson’s philosophical ideas. Following the death of his son Emerson (named after the philosopher), Conway struggles with the teachings of the man who had meant so much to him.
Sobre o autor
Moncure Daniel Conway (1832-1907) was an American abolitionist, clergyman, and author associated with the transcendentalists. His antislavery views made him anathema in his native Virginia. After the outbreak of the Civil War, he rescued many of his father’s slaves and wrote books and articles pleading for emancipation. He was ultimately estranged from America because of his pacifist views and spent many years in England and France.
