Thomas Hardy (1840-1928) was among the greatest English novelists of his time. A naturalist infused with romanticism and enlightenment thinking, along with a flair for the supernatural, Hardy focused on class divisions and social norms. While his poetry is greatly admired, he is famed for novels like Tess of the d’Urbervilles and Jude the Obscure.
