Indias struggle for Independence was against British Colonialism. Briefly speaking, Indias struggle for freedom started even before A.O. Hume founded Indian National Congress. As early as in nineties of 18th century Raja Ram Mohan Roy came to the forefront. Before the establishment of Indian National Congress Surendra Nath Banerjea and others had set the ball rolling though not with great momentum. It was, however, in 1885 A.D. that Hume founded Indian National Congress which subsequently became one of the most leading organisations of countrys national struggle. In March 1857, Mangal Pandey, a soldier of 34th Native Infantry attacked the British sergeant which is said to be the first war of Independence against British rule.
