THE IRREVERENT GUIDE TO FIXING DEPRESSION – From one who’s been there!
Ross Wilkinson’s a regular family guy; family man, businessman, and sportsman. He was living a great life until ‘BANG’…Depression hit, seemingly out of nowhere. He struggled with the illness for two years and then ‘BANG’...one day he found a solution. By taking probiotics, he repaired his gut health. It was a very fortunate accident.
Being an engineer, Ross wanted to know ‘why’ it worked. He devoured every book, scientific paper, and magazine article on the subject of probiotics and gut health, discovering their links to mental health. By combining the science, real world observation, anecdotal evidence, and old wives’ tales, he found the answers he was looking for.
I’ll reveal his formula for alleviating Depression right now!
• Take Probiotics to fix your gut health
• Eat more Salt
• Get more Sunshine (or eat it!)
• Avoid Poisons
• Drink Alcohol (but not too much)
• Eat the foods that your Grandparents ate
• Be wary of Supplements and Vitamins
Ross claims biology, not psychology, is responsible for most Depression, and that primary cause is Antibiotics.

Antibiotics are the primary driver of Depression and Anxiety.
Antibiotics can’t do it alone, usually they need help. That help comes from the poisons in our modern diet and the loss of nature in our lives. Everyone takes antibiotics today, sometimes daily, without even knowing it. Antibiotics are useful, lifesaving drugs and we really can’t do without them, but like with all drugs, there can be side effects.
Awful things can happen to any of us during our lives, but Depression takes hold of many ‘regular’ people like you and I, just trying to do the best for our lives and our families. The question arises: What caused the onset of this modern plague, when many aspects of our lives are better than ever?
We all like to think of ourselves as independent individuals, but we’re not…we are thriving ecosystems of bacteria (some bad, but mostly good). We, our guts, are an ecosystem/a thriving rainforest of bacteria, fungi, yeasts, viruses, and sometimes parasites and worms. We have been sold the idea that bacteria and viruses are all bad, and some are deadly, but many bacteria are good and helpful and want to make our lives better, if we let them.
Trillions of microscopic bacteria live in the colon, and those bacteria produce neurotransmitters. The transmitters are chemical ‘messengers’ that send messages of relaxation, motivation, alertness, and happiness around your body and to your brain. The main action here is a chemical called serotonin, which is produced by gut bacteria. Serotonin sends messages of happiness and satisfaction to your brain via the Vagus nerve…it’s like the ‘internet superhighway’ of your body. Modern Antidepressants (SSRI drugs) work on the serotonin system by modifying those chemical messengers, and slowing down their destruction.
What you need to do is make more serotonin and this is achieved by restoring your gut health. Often it’s not hard, it’s not lengthy, and you don’t have to become a monk or a vegan, or lie on a couch.
Here are my top tips for alleviating Depression:
1. Take Probiotics and Prebiotics (soluble fibre)
2. Get more Salt
3. Get more Sunshine (or eat it!)
4. Avoid poisons
5. Drink Alcohol (but not too much)
6. Eat like your grandparents ate
7. Be wary of medicines, supplements and vitamin tablets
8. Dig in the garden.
Ten years ago, I suffered with Depression for two years. Once I found the formula (by accident), I solved it in a day. When it comes to children, I have seen turnarounds in hours.
Even if I’m wrong, which I’m not, none of this will hurt you and all of it will improve your general biological health. Best of all, you can find what you need to restore your gut health at the local chemist or supermarket.
This book is a mixture of anecdotes, old wives’ tales, and scientific research supporting the hypotheses, but written in an everyday style, as if it were a conversation between friends.
The book contains 23 Chapters, approx. 77, 000 words, 308 pages.

Monica Wilkinson comes from a long line of scientists and engineers. Monica’s father was just about the most notable Microbiologist ever in Australia and appeared in the book of ‘Who’s Who’.
Microbiologists have only existed for the last hundred years. Prior to that, we didn’t know that bacteria existed. Microbiology is the study of tiny living things, the theme of this book. Monica and her father are Microbiologists, but instead of spending their time helping humans and human bacteria, they wasted their time making better quality wine and alcohol. Alcohol is made from yeast and bacteria, again, the main theme of this book. Yes, I agree, that’s a noble cause too. Only the perfect woman (Monica) can say, ‘Well if you need a drink, just wait 24hrs and I will brew you up 100 gallons of the stuff, and anything that’s left over you can put in your car.’
Monica has a Ph D in Microbiology, largely in the study of ethanol fuel manufacturing, but I’m sure she would say that raising three children and a rogue husband, are her greatest achievements.
