Thanks to my parents, every house I’ve lived in had an art table set up in the basement, so I have been crafting things, painting things and decorating things since before I can remember. My current home also has a messy drafting table in the basement, where I have enjoyed working on this book. I’m hopeful others will enjoy the levity we’ve tried to inject into this topic. My husband, two daughters and I live in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, where I teach art at Northern Vermont University and also do graphic design. I am really grateful to my parents for never questioning my desire to gravitate towards whatever places and jobs that let me make stuff- and for always letting me mess up a corner of their basement.
