It concerns a brilliant, but eccentric scientist named Theodore Honey, who is sent on a mission to investigate the structural integrity of a new type of aircraft. Honey discovers that due to a previously unknown physical phenomenon, the aircraft’s tail is likely to fail after a certain number of flight hours. Despite resistance from the airline industry, Honey tries to convince the authorities to ground the planes until modifications can be made. Meanwhile, Honey becomes close with a stewardess named Marjorie, and her young daughter, who become involved in his quest to save the planes.
