The extensive Corpus of all available legends of Byzantine metrical seals (ca. 4, 500) is to be published in three volumes; the first one appeared in 2011, the second is presented here. These miniature epigrams are sometimes aesthetically ambitious and also of philological interest. The commentary makes these seals accessible as an important source for prosopography, social and administrative history, historical geography and art history. The volume contains previously unpublished seals as well as revisions of published material.
