Prägnante Individualität ist die Antwort auf die Frage nach dem Sinn und Ziel des eigenen Lebens. Im demokratischen Verfassungsstaat wird sie geschützt und gefördert. Sie ist für viele selbstverständlich – und gerade deshalb gefährdet. Wer nach den Gefährdungen der Individualität fragt, nach ihren Triebkräften, Möglichkeiten und Grenzen, ihren Verheißungen und Versuchungen, der wird auf ihre protestantischen Wurzeln und Prägungen stoßen. Denn die Kraft des Protestantismus speist sich nicht zuletzt aus dem leidenschaftlichen Bemühen, das eigene Leben in der Beziehung zu anderem Leben – im Angesicht Gottes – gelingen zu lassen, und zwar selbst dann, wenn dies in die Auseinandersetzung mit der kirchlichen Ordnung führt.

The power of Protestantism is based not least on the passionate endeavor to live one’s life – in the presence of God – in good relationships with others, even if this implies conflicts with the ecclesial order.
